Spanish Padel Championship

After the cancellation: Here are the dates for the controversial tournament

ANNONS

Last year there was no Spanish championship. The year before that, the women boycotted the tournament. It is now official when this year's Spanish Championship will be held.

The Spanish Padel Federation FEP has had major problems organizing the Spanish Championships in recent years.

When the championship was held last time at the WiZink Center in Madrid in 2021, all the top women's players boycotted the tournament because some men's players had been paid to participate.

In 2022, the tournament was not played at all, as the intended dates clashed with Premier Padel in Egypt. However, a new date has been set for this year's championship. There will be less prize money, Valencia will replace Madrid, and it will be held in June instead of October.

The Municipal Pavilion of the Vedat and the Parc Central in Valencia will host the tournament that goes from €60,000 to €50,000 in prize money, distributed between the men's and women's categories.

The event was presented earlier this week, and the president of the FEP, Ramon Morcillo, celebrated that "the hard part is over, which was to get here. We have seen the light at the end of the tunnel."

He did not explain why the 2022 edition, scheduled for October last year and rescheduled for January this year, has not been held.

The reigning champions of the Spanish Championships are Javi Garrido and Martin Di Nenno on the men's side and Eunice and Priscila Rodriguez, ranked 121th and 117th on the WPT ranking.
