The 2022 Spanish Padel Championship will not take place this year. Now the Spanish Federation (FEP) is blaming the International Federation (FIP) and Premier Padel.

Just 12 days before the competition's scheduled start, the Spanish Federation, chaired by Ramón Morcillo, has announced in a statement that they are "studying the change of the date of the Spanish Championship 2022".

The federation has previously been silent about the competition but now blames the International Padel Federation (FIP) for the date being the same time as P1 of Premier Padel in Egypt. Where the FIP is the organizer.

”The dispute over this Premier 1 tournament presupposes that the vast majority of all men's players are unable to participate in the national championship since most of the Spanish players will participate in the Egyptian tournament", states the letter.

According to the website Padelazo, the Spanish Championship 2022 will instead be held from 23rd to 29th of January 2023.

In the announcement, the Spanish Padel Federation claims that they announced the dates in their official calendar in January 2022, setting the dates of 24-30 October as reserved for Spain's championships for both men and women.

It is also stressed that the FIP knew these dates through direct communication from the Spanish Federation.

"Although the Spanish Padel Federation informed the International Padel Federation of the championship dates, last September, the Premier Padel Tour announced a P1 event in Egypt on the same date as the 2022 Spanish Championship".

Last year, the best women players did not participate in the Spanish Championship. This was after they discovered that some men had been paid to participate. Which the FEP denied.
