Several stars on the women's side, including Gemma Triay, Alejandra Salazar, Patty Llaguno, and Lucia Sainz, will not participate in the Spanish championships in Madrid next week. The reason is that several of the male stars have been paid to compete.

On Saturday, an open letter from the Twitter account JugadorasIPPA, the International Padel Players Association, was published, stating:

"Many padel players registered in the Spanish Padel Championship 2021 have been informed that certain padel players have been offered economic retribution for their participation. Remuneration that has not been offered or proposed to the participating players".

The Spanish Padel Championship will go in the Wzink Center in Madrid next week. Currently, the line-up is unclear on the women's side, as the majority supports the decision to boycott.

The prize money on both the men's and women's sides is equal, and 30,000 euros will be awarded to both categories. But to attract the best men's players to the competition, a 9,000 euro bonus was created by the company Urban Event who organized the championship, according to Marca" newspaper.

"This behavior shows a lack of respect and consideration for female players and is contrary to the principle of equality. That behavior alien to the values regulations of the sport deprives padel, all those who support this sport, and the supporters, of our participation in this "championship," continues the letter.

Padel Alto is on-site in Madrid for the championship next week and will update the latest news about the line-up and the tournament in general.
