Sanz and Nieto deliver the first surprise of the day in Madrid

ANNONS

Sanz and Nieto have displayed remarkable strength right from the start of their partnership. Today, the Spanish duo defeated Alex Ruiz and Juan Tello in the Round of 16 at the Madrid P1.

Jon Sanz and Coki Nieto previously teamed up for the Vienna Open at the end of May, showing promise and making it to the semifinals. However, their partnership was short-lived as Sanz received the call from Alejandro Galán to join forces.

Last week, the pair reunited at the Major Premier Padel in Italy and pushed the second-seeded duo, Stupaczuk and Di Nenno, to their limits in a thrilling three-set match.

Today, once again, Jon Sanz and Coki Nieto put on an impressive performance. They defeated Álex Ruiz and Juan Tello, who received a wildcard entry to the tournament after missing the registration deadline.

They beat the fifth-seeded pair

Sanz and Nieto started the match strongly, taking a 3-0 lead, but Ruiz and Tello fought back to level the contest. The first set was decided in a tie break, where the Spanish pair demonstrated remarkable precision to claim the victory.

The second set was also a closely-fought battle, as both pairs held their serve strongly. At 5-5, Sanz and Nieto managed a crucial break and closed out the match with a scoreline of 7-6 and 7-5.

Tomorrow, the victorious duo will face off against the reigning champions of the Italy Major, Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia, in the quarterfinals.
