Excitement is building as the highly anticipated inaugural World Padel League approaches. The tournament, set to take place at Dubai's Coca-Cola Arena from June 8th to 11th, will feature a substantial prize purse, as reported by Gulf News.

During a press conference held last Thursday at the Dubai Sports Council headquarters, the innovative team competition format involving some of the world's top padel players was unveiled.

The World Padel League will showcase four franchise teams: Jaguars, Panthers, Tigers, and Cheetahs. Each team will compete in men's doubles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles matches.

Big prizes at stake

Substantial prizes are up for grabs, with a total prize pool of 826,000 dirhams (207,000 euros). The champions will walk away with 550,000 dirhams (138,000 euros), while the runners-up will be rewarded with 275,000 dirhams (69,000 euros).

“We are reinventing the whole game in the team format. Every single point matters. Each game will be of one set each and every set will matter towards the final outcome. It’s going to be a high-octane game. We will have two matches a day with a total of six sets. Players will be fighting for every single point for the glittering World Padel League Trophy and huge prize,” expressed Rajesh Banga, President of the World Padel League, during the conference. “We want to make this the richest franchise-based padel tournament across the globe,” he added.

Increase the tournament scope

Expanding the tournament's reach is already on the organizers' agenda, aiming to capture the attention of the global stage with Dubai at its center. The league also plans to establish its own ranking system for future events.

“As we grow, the prize money will keep increasing. The dream scenario for us is to move it to three legs. First in Mexico, as the sport is born there, second in Europe, and the third in Dubai. All roads lead to Dubai. A total of 10 days of action will see every single point count,” stated Saeed Hareb, Secretary General of the Dubai Sports Council.

In addition to featuring an impressive lineup of players, the organizers have prepared a wide array of entertainment offerings in Dubai's unique style, including three concerts featuring internationally renowned artists.
