One-tournament pair pull off a surprise to reach semis in Menorca

The circumstantial duo of Tamara Icardo and Lucia Sainz, reached the semifinals of the World Padel Tour Menorca Open after knocking out the 4th ranked couple in three sets.

The recently formed pair Icardo/Sainz gave the surprise of the morning, after eliminating Virginia Riera and Patty Llaguno in an incredible match that lasted more than three hours.

After being tied at one on the scoreboard, it all came down to the tiebreak of the third set in favour of Icardo and Sainz, who beat their rivals 6/4 2/6 7/6.

Icardo split with Delfi Brea, and then joined Sainz in what will be a one-tournament pairing. For the next Mexico Open, Tamara Icardo will play with Marta Talavan, while Lucia Sainz will play with Portuguese Sofia Araujo.

Tomorrow, in the semi-finals, they will have the difficult task of facing Ariana Sanchez and Paula Josemaria, the world number ones.
