After a Thursday with surprises in Belgium — quarterfinals begins

This Thursday, while in the men's draw all the favourite pairs did their job and qualified for Friday's quarter-finals; the last 16 of the Brussels Open 2022 kicked off to a surprise start in the women's draw. The number two and four ranked couples were eliminated in their debut.

In the second round of the morning of the WPT Belgian Open, the number two pair in the WPT women's rankings made their debut. Paula Josemaría and Ariana Sánchez faced Esther Carnicero and Lucía Martínez, the 18th prequalified couple. In this way, Josemaría and Sánchez said goodbye to the competition in their debut, and for the first time this season, they will not be in the final of a WPT tournament. 

Earlier, in the first morning round, the world number four pairing - Tamara Icardo and Delfina Brea - were also eliminated in their debut against Jessica Castello and Alix Collombon. The Franco/Spanish pair, currently ranked number 10, played a great match and qualified for the quarter-finals in 3 sets 6-3 4-6 6-3. For their part, since Tamara Icardo's return from injury, the world number four couple has not achieved the expected results. They fell in the quarter-finals in Vigo and Alicante, and in their round of 16 debuts in Brussels, winning only 2 of the 5 matches played in the season.
