Day 2 from Doha: Finally, the ”Golden Point” is gone and all three relatives involved in today's surprises
ANNONS

I didn't hear anyone cheering when the World Padel Tour introduced ”Golden Point” as a new concept. Over time, you have got used to it, and I even liked it for a while. But seeing tight matches with advantage makes me want to have it all the time again.

Tight three-hour matches with a proper fight in every game do something to me. That's clear after watching the opening two days of Premier Padel. That's why I never want to watch the ”Golden Point” invention again.

It was a proposal that was disliked from the start, by the players and by the supporters. But with time, many took it to their heart after it was introduced a couple of years ago on the World Padel Tour. The talk was more exciting matches and more chances of breaks for the weaker teams,

But the fact was probably that the matches went on too long into the evenings.

Even I have been split on the issue until these days. Then I miss the old padel with long rallies in the games, longer matches. In my opinion, it makes it more fun, exciting and provides even more even matches.

So my wish is: never introduce ”Golden Point” as a concept again.

According to information provided to Padel Alto, this is also the players' wish. Before Premier Padel, they voted in the Professional Players Association (PPA), where a majority voted to abolish Golden Point.

Otherwise, on the second day of the Qatar Major, we were treated to two big surprises: the biggest came from Nacho Vilarino and Jose Luis Gonzalez, who beat out Sanyo Gutierrez himself, who was competing with his nephew Agustin Gutierrez for the first time. You can read an interview with the winners here

Don't forget that the pair of Vilarino and Gonzalez have never gone to a Main Draw of the World Padel Tour and, as "Lucky Losers" knocked out Javi Leal and Miguel Semmler yesterday. Tomorrow, they will face Javi Rico and Momo Gonzalez.

Fortunately for the Gutierrez family, the other surprise was by another nephew of Sanyo Gutierrez. "Sanyito," as he is called, Cristian Gutierrez and Swede Daniel Windahl won in two sets against respected Edu Alonso and Jesus Moya. Tomorrow it´s going to be more challenging. Then they will face Juan Lebron and Alejandro Galan.

It was less windy today overall in Doha, but the players still had difficult conditions. It remains to be seen how the rest of the week will be.
