Maxi Sanchez, 35, is synonymous with padel. The Argentine player, former world number one, is undoubtedly one of the greatest references of world padel. In an interview with Padel Alto, Maxi Sanchez tells us about his feelings about the current padel scene and to enter 2022 with a lot of personal news.

At the beginning of the season, Maxi Sanchez left Bullpadel after six years to join a new and ambitious sports project with his new sponsor, the Decathlon brand Kuikma.

— I was attracted to the project from the beginning. Decathlon and Kuikma are great brands, with a great image, very strong commercially, and many resources. For me, it is a great challenge to help Kuikma grow and become one of the best padel brands in the world, Maxi Sanchez says to Padel Alto.

”Playing with Pablo has always been one of my wishes”

But the sponsor change wasn't the only novelty that kicked off 2022. Sanchez decided to leave Lucho Capra. Padel Alto first revealed the news and that Maxi Sanchez decided it before the Buenos Aires Masters.

Instead, he contacted Pablo Lima to play together in 2022.

— Playing with Pablo has always been one of my wishes, and I had it very clear. Both Pablo and I were looking for partners with similar thoughts, and I think we are both at the same point in our careers. We talked for a few days to decide the best way to face the project, and we went for it. I think it's too early to evaluate the season, but the truth is that we feel very comfortable together on the court. We've only been working together for a short period, and we know the kind of game we want to achieve, but we have to keep training and getting to know each other to give our best version.

And he continues

— Our objectives for this season are clear: To be competitive, play the padel we like, and enjoy ourselves. If we achieve that, we will climb positions in the ranking.

“Padel has to be free”

"El Tiburon" or ”The Shark”, his famous nickname, also refers to the current padel news and gives his opinion about Premier Padel and how he believes the new circuit will contribute to the growth of the world padel scene.

— I think it's the future, and it gives us the possibility to grow as professionals and the opportunity for the sport to be global and grow in a way that we still can't imagine.

The first competition of Premier Padel will be in Doha, starting on 28 March. Before that, there is the World Padel Tour, Vigo Open.

— I hope that with all the effort we players have made, padel will be the beneficiary. Padel has to be free, and the players should have the possibility to play anywhere in the world. So to develop as a circuit and make this sport one of the most practiced in the world, Maxi Sanchez says.
