Javi Garrido to Padel Alto — the sensation and controversy during the match against Lebron and Galan

”There was a lot of talk about the organization, but for me, it's been one of the best tournaments so far.” Javi Garrido gives his take on the situation to Padel Alto.

ANNONS

They knocked out Juan Lebron and Ale Galan as well as Agustin Tapia and Sanyo Gutierrez. After last week's big sensation in Miami that ended with a loss in the final, Javi Garrido speaks out in an exclusive interview with Padel Alto about the success and the controversy with Juan Lebron in the middle of the match.
— We know we can beat anyone, the star from Cordoba says.

Javier Garrido is perhaps the most talked-about player right now after the success last week with partner Brazilian Lucas Campagnolo.

— We got together in October last year, and we felt we were getting on well, but we needed a pre-season. In January, we started the pre-season, started training, and the vibes were very good. We felt very comfortable, Javi Garrido says to Padel Alto.

Padel Alto: So, was that what we saw in Miami?

— We went to Miami a week before to prepare for the tournament, and while we were there, we played several training matches, and we felt we were playing very well. So we decided not to put pressure on ourselves and play the tournament as we were training, and well, the results are there for all to see. We beat the number one couple in their first match, then the number three. Well, the impact was big.

Padel Alto: Has Miami changed your expectations for this season?

— The expectations and objectives are the same as at the beginning. The good result in Miami hasn't changed them. We are aware of the couple we are, and having beaten the couples we have beaten in Miami doesn't mean we can't lose in Reus. Miami gave us confidence, and we know we can beat anyone, but we have to keep improving and training in the same way.

"These are things that happen on the court, and they should stay there”

As well as going to their first-ever Open or Masters final on the World Padel Tour, the seven-ranked pair were also involved in a situation in the middle of the match against Juan Lebron and Alejandro Galan.

Where Juan Lebron and Alejandro Galan claimed that some of the crowd behaved badly towards them.

Now Javi Garrido gives his take on the situation to Padel Alto.

— What happened was that, in the third set, Juan was insulted from the stands after he missed a smash, and he got angry, of course. There was indeed a lot of talk about it afterward, and I think it tainted the match a little bit. That was a pity because the game was going on very well. What was generated outside the court is up to each of us. I get on very well with Juan, I respect him a lot, and I appreciate him. These are things that happen on the court, and they should stay there. Then I talked with Juan and Alejandro, and things went on very well, Javi Garrido says.

”Positive tournament for padel"

On their social media accounts, Juan Lebron and Alejandro Galan heavily criticized the World Padel Tour. In an interview with Padel Alto, winner Fernando Belasteguin agreed with the criticism

But Garrido disagrees.

— There was a lot of talk about the organization, but for me, it was one of the best tournaments so far. The people, the atmosphere, the organization, everything was very well put together... I think it was a very positive tournament for padel, and I'm not just saying that because we reached the final. Indeed, sometimes the noise was too much because the VIP area was so close, and that was a bit distracting.

Javi Garrido and Lucas Campagnolo are signed up to also play at the new FIP Tour's first competition in Doha from 28 March to 3 April. That means there will be many more tournaments this season.

— Obviously, there will be many tournaments, you have to be well prepared physically and psychologically. I think we'll have to analyze the season and choose the most worthwhile tournaments for us. There will be a lot of travel, and otherwise, it will be complicated.
