Matchi acquires padel application: ”Ultimate tournament platform”
The Swedish company Matchi accelerates its growth by acquiring Padelboard to enhance its tournament platform for players and facilities. They announced this in a press release on Wednesday.
”We are constantly striving to improve the racket sports experience,” says Daniel Ekman, CEO of Matchi.
Matchi, one of the world's fastest-growing racket sports platforms, has acquired Padelboard, one of the leading tournament platforms for padel. The company wants to connect with players and form a community for padel enthusiasts worldwide through the acquisition.
— We are constantly striving to improve the racket sports experience throughout the value chain. Padelboard's highly regarded tournament tools will be a great addition to the Matchi product portfolio. By bringing together our wide range of services such as Backhandsmash, Padelgo, and now Padelboard, Matchi will be able to create the ultimate tournament platform for players and facilities," said Daniel Ekman CEO of Matchi.
Founded in 2012, Matchi has quickly established itself globally for facilities and players. Matchi offers comprehensive and valued services to more than 1,400 facilities over 1 million players and is partners with some of the largest padel chains in the world. Having recently acquired the streaming platform Padelgo, Matchi further strengthens its position as a key partner for the global padel community by acquiring Padelboard - enhancing its tournament platform and expanding its product portfolio.
"The perfect partner"
Founded in 2020, Padelboard offers a tournament tool for padel that aims to engage, challenge and enable padel enthusiasts to meet and compete. The app is used by more than 35,000 padel players in Europe and welcomes thousands of new users every week.
As the padel market evolves, facilities need to engage and retain their player base. One way to do that is through tournaments.
In 2021, according to Matchi's data, fast-paced tournaments had increased by 20 times. A trend can also be seen on the Padelboard platform, where the number of tournaments created has doubled in the last six months.
To follow the trend, Padelboard has recently released Padelboard Arena - a service that allows facilities to manage their tournaments. It is already used by more than 70 facilities in Europe, which is expected to grow rapidly.
— We have always felt that Matchi is the perfect partner for us to partner with. We share the same vision of working with facilities to create value. In addition, Matchi's broad knowledge, expertise, and experience of the industry will be invaluable in our journey forward - to make the sport more tournament-based together with players and facilities, the ultimate padel community, says Robin Lundgren, co-founder, and chairman of Padelboard.
