Cardona after the World Cup decision: "I think I deserved to go"
Almost six months have passed since the World Cup ended with Argentina as the winner. Now Pablo Cardona tells the Spanish newspaper Marca that he believes he should have been selected for the Spanish national team.
When the squad for the 2024 World Cup was announced, Cardona was not included – even though he had made big progress during the year playing with Paquito Navarro.
In an interview from April, he said this about the decision:
“Yes, actually, it was right before the World Cup that I was playing my best. After that, my performance got worse. In Dubai, Paco and I lost in the round of 16, and that really hurt. I don’t think we got back to a high level after that. But before that, we were not playing badly,” he told Marca.
“So yes, I thought I had a chance, and honestly, I’ll say it: I think I deserved to go. That said, many other players also deserved it but didn’t go. It’s very hard to be a national coach – you have to think about many things. It’s complicated.”
