Top players return next week – registered for Premier Padel
Over the past two Premier Padel tournaments, nearly the entire top 100 on the men’s side has been absent due to a boycott. Now, it is confirmed that they will return when the tour reaches the USA for a P1 tournament.
This week, the Premier Padel season continues with a P2 tournament in Mexico. Two weeks ago, a P2 tournament was held in Gijón, where the entire top 100 on the men’s side was missing after the players chose not to participate.
The players' union clarified in a statement that they had not called for a boycott but stated that the players want to compete—just not at any price. Read more here.
For this week's tournament in Mexico, nearly the entire top 100 remains absent, with one exception. Juan Lebron and Franco Stupaczuk registered just over an hour before the deadline and enter as the clear favorites.
However, the situation changes when Premier Padel reaches the USA next week. Miami P1 will be the first major tournament since players began choosing not to participate in P2 tournaments, and when the registration deadline passed on Friday, the list was filled with all top players.
Miami P1 will take place from March 17 to 23.
