British Padel Tour with new broadcasts – studio and larger production
It was on Tuesday that it was confirmed that Padel-TV will broadcast the British Padel Tour, including the Masters Final and the first British national padel championships, for the next three years. In an interview, the company's CEO, Johannes Thomhave, talks about the agreement and the plans for the broadcasts.
Padel-TV has produced and broadcast both the Swedish and Danish tours in recent years. Now, the company has signed a three-year agreement with the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) to broadcast and produce the British Padel Tour, including the first British national padel championships, as well as two FIP Silver and two FIP Bronze tournaments in 2025.
– England is one of the fastest growing countries in padel right now. They have a strong tennis background, and it is also the tennis federation that is responsible for padel in England. The Lawn Tennis Association, which famously organizes Wimbledon, is behind this. This time, we haven’t signed with a small newly formed padel federation—we’ve partnered with a large company, which we hope will prove very satisfactory since it will take a combined effort to develop padel further among many competing sports in the UK.
– It’s great that the deal is done, and we are very happy to be part of this growth journey, which we hope will continue for many years to come.
The broadcasts: WPT angle
Regarding the broadcasts, Thomhave explains that Padel-TV will use a main camera in the so-called "WPT angle," which is the standard for Premier Padel and other major tours.
– We have tried diagonal angles, but the main camera angle is still the best in our opinion, and we have used it whenever possible on the Swedish and Danish Tours, and of course in arena events like Hexagon Cup and America vs. Europe.
– Then we will have manually controlled cameras following the players, serves, and the ball, as well as net cameras covering out-of-court play. And of course, with replays, highlights, production, and graphics. So overall, an improvement of the broadcasts, which of course is a must since our viewers pay to subscribe.
Will the broadcasts include a studio and commentators?
– Yes, we will have both a studio, commentators, and experts.
Padel-TV has previously broadcast major championships, including both the European and World Championships. They also offer coverage of the Danish tour and several tournaments in Sweden. Now, the company has changed to a global subscription model where all padel broadcasts are included, regardless of country.
– We now have one subscription for all padel worldwide, as in only one subscription in terms of content. Then, customers can choose whether they want to pay per month or per year at a reduced price, but they will all be able to watch Scandinavian tours, the British tour, the FIP tour and international events.
How much will the subscription cost in the UK?
– £9.99 per month. But right now we offer a Free Trial which is automatically added to your subscription when you sign up, so that everyone is welcome to try us out for free.
Live scoring on 12 courts
Finally, Padel-TV’s CEO Johannes Thomhave shares that he is preparing the production for the first tournament, where live scores will be available on all twelve courts.
– I am now working on the production for the first tournament, and the organizers R3 are very ambitious and wants us to have scoring on all twelve courts. So with their help we will provide that. It will be a great event.
The first tournament in the partnership will be an FIP Silver event featuring both national and international players at Rocket Padel Bristol April 9-13.
