Gemma Triay wants more indoor tournaments: "Fewer surprises"

ANNONS

This year’s first Premier Padel tournament was marked by rain and delayed matches, with the final day postponed by two days before the tournament could finally be completed. Now, Gemma Triay shares her thoughts on the balance between indoor and outdoor tournaments.

In an interview with Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportiv, Triay said more of the season’s tournaments should be played indoors.

– For me, it’s a sport that changes a lot between indoor and outdoor play, and I think there have to be outdoor tournaments, but I believe it should be 70% indoor and 30% outdoor. I don’t think Majors should be played outdoors—it should be two of each at most, but there can't be so many points awarded under the same conditions.

– I think there are fewer unexpected results indoors. The top pairs might make a bigger difference indoors compared to outdoors. Outside, more things can happen because the conditions are less predictable—there’s more wind, and you feel less secure. Indoors, it can still happen, but it’s less common. So I say, should there be outdoor tournaments? Yes. But for spectators, it’s more enjoyable to watch higher-quality padel indoors.
