Ale Galán on Golden Point or Advantage: "I Have a Very Clear Opinion"
During the final years of the World Padel Tour, matches were played under the Golden Point rule. But when Premier Padel took over the world tour, they decided to return to the traditional advantage system. Now, Ale Galán shares his thoughts on which rule he prefers.
Should a single decisive point be enough to secure the game, or should players have to win two in a row? The rules have varied across different tours and championships in recent years. During the final years of the World Padel Tour, audiences got used to the Golden Point.
But when Premier Padel was established, the decision was clear after consulting with the players – the traditional advantage system would be used.
Ale Galán recently spoke about the topic in an interview with Relevo:
– I have a very clear opinion. I prefer the advantage rule, just as it has always been. I don’t think it makes a noticeable difference in match duration. For me, the tension created is much better with the advantage system. But I respect other opinions and understand that some, for business and entertainment reasons, want to shorten matches, as things that take too long quickly lose interest for many people today. However, I believe there are other ways to shorten matches without changing this format.
Premier Padel returns this week with the first tournament of the year.
