Through to the Semifinals in Their Final Tournament Together
Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez are competing in their final tournament as a pair at the Tour Finals in Barcelona. After a challenging quarterfinal against Claudia Jensen and Tamara Icardo, they have secured a spot in the semifinals, extending their partnership for at least one more match.
The Tour Finals in Barcelona, previously known as the Master Final, mark the end of the padel season and provide a last opportunity for many pairs to finish the year on a high note. For Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez, who announced earlier this week that they would part ways after the tournament, the focus is on ending their partnership on the best possible terms.
In the quarterfinals, Triay and Fernandez faced Claudia Jensen and Tamara Icardo. The duo started strongly and won the first set 6-2. However, their opponents came back in the second set, winning it 6-4 and forcing a decisive third set.
The final set was an intense battle, with both pairs having their chances. After several breaks back and forth, it was Triay and Fernandez who eventually secured the victory, taking the set 7-5.
The result sends them to the semifinals, where they will face Delfina Brea and Veronica Virseda.
For Triay and Fernandez, their partnership continues for at least one more match. However, after the tournament, both players will move on to new partnerships. According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Gemma Triay is expected to pair with Delfina Brea next season.
