Two Pairs Secure Semifinal Spots at Tour Finals
The year's final and most exciting tournament has kicked off in Barcelona. The competition started with an intense match lasting two and a half hours, followed by a thrilling battle where the favorites secured the win. Here's a report from the first two matches in Barcelona.
The Tour Finals in Barcelona, formerly known as the Master Final when organized by the World Padel Tour, always carries special significance. For the players, it's the last tournament before a long break and, for some, the final competition with their current partners.
This was the case again today, as the arena was well-filled and the first two matches on the schedule were played. The first match was even, between Alejandra Salazar and Jessica Castello against Marta Ortega and Sofia Araujo. The match was marked by many 40-40 points and went to a third set, where Salazar and Castello were the stronger pair, securing their advancement with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 win.
Next came the first men's match, between Javier Garrido and Lucas Bergamini against Juan Lebron and Martin Di Nenno. There were many interesting aspects to this match, including reports from the Spanish newspaper Marca indicating that Di Nenno and Garrido are close to reuniting next year.
However, today they stood on opposite sides of the net. This match was also close, but Lebron and Di Nenno were stronger over two sets and secured their semifinal spot with a 6-4, 6-3 victory.
The first two matches are now decided, but two more await this evening in Barcelona:
Paula Josemaria & Ariana Sanchez vs. Lucia Sainz & Patricia Llaguno
Followed by:
Arturo Coello & Agustin Tapia vs. Pablo Cardona & Francisco Navarro.
