The Race for Tour Finals: Five Players Chasing the Last Tickets
With just one competition left, the race for the final places at this year's Tour Finals will be decided this week. Between 19 and 22 December, the world's best padel players will gather in Barcelona and it is now clear that five players are fighting for the two remaining tickets to the Tour Finals.
The Tour Finals, based on the players’ 22 best results throughout the year, bring together the top 16 ranked players on both the men’s and women’s sides. The final Premier Padel tournament will decide who earns a place in this prestigious competition.
Five players competing for two spots
Unless there is a major upset in this week’s P1 tournament – such as a player outside the top 16 in the Race winning the title – five players remain in contention for the last two spots. Currently, Pablo Cardona and Alex Ruiz hold the qualifying positions, but Lucas Bergamini, Alex Arroyo, and Sanyo Gutiérrez are close behind.
The standings are tight, with Cardona, who is in the second-to-last qualifying spot, only 185 points ahead of Gutiérrez. With such small gaps, every match this week could make a difference.
This week’s tournament is a P1 event, awarding 1,000 points to the winners, 600 to the runners-up, 360 to the semifinalists, 180 to the quarterfinalists, and 90 to players reaching the round of 16. The outcomes this week will determine who secures the final spots for the Tour Finals in Barcelona.
