Bela's latest title - won with Coello

ANNONS

Fernando Belasteguín, the best padel player of all time, ends his professional career this week. After an incredible journey with 230 titles to his name, padel's most successful career is coming to an end in Italy. Here we look back at his last major triumph on the World Tour - a victory that came almost exactly two years ago in Mexico.

With 230 titles, Belasteguín has not only shaped the history of padel, but also set a standard that few, if any, will reach. The most recent of these titles was secured in Mexico, alongside current world number one Arturo Coello, in the debut year of Premier Padel.

The tournament in Mexico was special in several ways. It was an early Premier Padel tournament, played during the World Padel Tour's break, and it was also the year in which Belasteguín and Coello had built a successful partnership. Their victory in Mexico was not only one of their most memorable moments - it was also likely to be Belasteguín's last title of his professional career.

The road to victory

On their way to the title, Bela and Coello faced Momo González and Alex Ruiz in the quarter-finals, where they won in straight sets with the scores 6-1, 7-5.

In the semi-finals, they faced Martin Di Nenno and Coki Nieto and again won, this time after a match that ended 7-6, 6-4.

The final was a particularly significant match against Agustín Tapia and Sanyo Gutiérrez - not least because Tapia and Coello would announce their future partnership just weeks later. In addition, Tapia and Gutiérrez had impressed by knocking out then world number one seeds Ale Galán and Juan Lebrón in the quarter-finals.

With the scores 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, Bela and Coello secured the victory and lifted the trophy in Mexico.
