Libaak and Augsburger Lead Argentina to World Championship Gold
Spain and Argentina faced off today in a much-awaited World Championship final that kept the audience engaged in every match. The day started with a strong Spanish win, followed by a close second match, leading to an exciting final showdown where Argentina ultimately claimed the gold.
Before the final, team line-ups drew plenty of interest. Spain’s coach, Juanjo Gutiérrez, had hinted in an interview with Relevo that Lebron would play backhand. However, when the line-up was announced, this proved to be a strategic move — Lebron instead played forehand alongside Galan, marking their first match together in 222 days.
First on court were Arturo Coello and Coki Nieto, who faced Martin Di Nenno and Franco Stupaczuk. Coello and Nieto delivered a strong performance, winning 6-1, 6-2, which gave Spain an early lead.
In the second match, Juan Lebron and Alejandro Galan went up against Argentina’s Federico Chingotto and Agustin Tapia. It was a tight match, with Argentina taking the first set in a tiebreak. Although Lebron and Galan managed to level the match, Tapia and Chingotto held on to win the deciding set 6-2.
The deciding match was between Spain's Mike Yanguas and Paquito Navarro and Argentina's Tino Libaak and Leandro Augsburger. The match was very close, with Yanguas and Navarro taking the first set 6-3. Argentina responded strongly and equalized by winning the second set 7-5.
In the end, it took a third set to decide the World Cup final. Spain took an important break, but Argentina equalized to 4-4. At 5-4 to Argentina, Augsburger suffered a cramp and had difficulty playing on. He continued to fight and gave an incredible performance as Argentina won the match in a tiebreak to secure the World Cup gold.
