Argentina showed strong fight – but Spain secured the World Championship Gold
In today’s World Championship final, Spain put forward two world No. 1 players, along with the world No. 3 and No. 4, against an Argentina determined to break Spain’s championship streak. Despite the favorites being on one side of the net, Argentina made it clear they weren’t letting go of the final without a fight.
The Padel World Championship often brings surprises, especially when players team up with their usual rivals from Premier Padel. However, in recent years, the finals have consistently been showdowns between Spain and Argentina — and this year was no exception.
Spain entered as the clear favorites, with most of the world’s top-ranked players on their side, and the coach chose to start world No. 3 Gemma Triay and world No. 4 Claudia Fernandez. They faced Argentina's Julieta Evangelina (ranked 37) and Virginia Riera (ranked 16). Argentina opened strongly, but the match quickly shifted in Spain’s favor, ending 6-3, 6-2.
Next, world No. 1s Ariana Sanchez and Paula Josemaria had the chance to secure the gold for Spain against Argentina’s top pair, Delfi Brea and Claudia Jensen. Brea and Jensen took the first set 6-3, but Spain answered by clinching the second set 7-5 after a critical late break.
The final went to a deciding third set, where both teams kept pace with each other, but Spain ultimately proved stronger and closed the set at 7-5.
Spain ultimately secured another World Championship gold on the women’s side.
