The World Padel Championship is just around the corner, and the selection of Spain's men's team has raised several questions, both regarding the chosen players and how the lineup will be structured. Now, Spanish coach Juanjo Gutiérrez has spoken about where Juan Lebrón will play.

The championship, starting at the end of October, is expected to be a close contest for the title between Spain and Argentina.

Spain's men's team includes the following players:

Men's team:

  • Arturo Coello
  • Alejandro Galan
  • Juan Lebron
  • Francisco Navarro
  • Alejandro Ruiz
  • Coki Nieto
  • Miguel Yanguas
  • Jon Sanz

The most notable absences are Javi Garrido and Momo Gonzalez, along with Pablo Cardona, Edu Alonso, and Alex Arroyo. The coach has chosen the pair Nieto/Sanz and brought Ruiz and Yanguas.

The big question has been where Juan Lebrón will play. In recent years, he has been playing on the forehand side, but since teaming up with Martin Di Nenno a few months ago, he has switched to the backhand.

Spanish coach Juanjo Gutiérrez clarified this in an interview with Relevo.

— Fortunately, Lebrón has the ability to play on both sides, but for now, he will play as a backhand player, which is what he’s been doing recently in competitions.

When asked if this means ruling out a Lebrón/Paquito pairing, he responded:

— Yes, although nothing can be completely ruled out in a World Championship with such high-level players who know each other so well. But, as I’ve said, Juan is coming to the team to play backhand.
