After Paris - important steps in the world rankings

ANNONS

Last week, the Paris Major took place in France. On the women’s side, there were several surprises, while the men’s tournament proceeded more as expected. Delfi Brea and Andrea Ustero impressed and made it all the way to the final, resulting in a rise in the world rankings for both players.

When Bea Gonzalez announced that she couldn’t participate in the upcoming tournaments, Delfi Brea saw her chance to team up with 17-year-old Ustero, who was also without a partner. In the Paris semifinal, they faced Alejandra Salazar and Jessica Castello, and early on, it looked like the match would go in Salazar and Castello’s favor. They quickly took a 4-1 lead and controlled the match with long, intense rallies.

However, the match took a turn as Ustero grew into the match. Her impressive performance was key as she and Brea turned the match around, winning the first set 6-4. They eventually took the victory, making Ustero the youngest player to reach a Major final.

In the final against world number ones Ariana Sanchez and Paula Josemaria, the match started evenly, but Sanchez and Josemaria quickly took control and dominated the second set, securing the title. During the trophy ceremony, the world number ones congratulated and encouraged Ustero, who had clearly made her mark in the padel world.

The final performance led to a significant boost in the world rankings for both players. Delfi Brea moves up to fourth place, moves Claudia Fernandez down one place after Fernandez’s quarterfinal exit. This ranking is crucial for Brea and Bea Gonzalez as they aim to take over the number two spot later in the season. Andrea Ustero climbs two places and is now in 16th position.
