The talent makes history in Paris – through to Major final
Delfi Brea and Andrea Ustero have truly impressed in their temporary partnership. Today in Paris, they managed to stage a comeback and defeat Alejandra Salazar and Jessica Castello, securing their spot in the final. With this achievement, Andrea Ustero has also made history as the youngest player ever to reach a Major final.
When Bea Gonzalez announced she couldn’t participate in the upcoming tournaments, Delfi Brea saw an opportunity to team up with the talented Andrea Ustero, who was also left without a partner. Their collaboration paid off immediately – in their first tournament together, they reached the semifinals, repeating that success in Paris.
In today's semifinal, they faced Salazar and Castello, who had survived six match points in a dramatic, three-and-a-half-hour clash against Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez the day before. Salazar and Castello started strong, quickly taking a 4-1 lead and seemingly controlling the match with long, intense rallies.
However, the match turned around when Ustero, in particular, began to shine on court. Her standout performance became a decisive factor as she and Brea rallied back to take the first set 6-4.
The second set was incredibly close in Paris. It was first at 4-4 that Salazar and Castello managed to win the break and then the set.
A third set decided the semi-final on the centre court in Paris. Brea and Ustero got off to a great start and took an immediate 3-0 lead. The pair maintained the lead until victory with the score 6-4, 4-6, 6-0.
This victory is particularly special for Andrea Ustero, who has now made history as the youngest player to reach a Major final. Tomorrow’s final will see them take on the winners of the match between Aranza Osoro/Veronica Virseda and Ariana Sanchez/Paula Josemaria.
