WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP: How Spain could form their lineup

ANNONS

The Padel World Championship in Qatar is set to begin in a month, and last week, Spain announced their squad. This has sparked discussions around both the players who were not selected and how the team will be formed. Here are a few examples of how Spain could potentially line up their men's national team.

The tournament, starting at the end of October, is expected to feature a close battle for the title between Spain and Argentina.

Spain has chosen the following players for the men's team:

Men's Team:

  • Arturo Coello
  • Alejandro Galan
  • Juan Lebron
  • Francisco Navarro
  • Alejandro Ruiz
  • Coki Nieto
  • Miguel Yanguas
  • Jon Sanz

Coach: Juan José Gutiérrez

One of the most notable exclusions from the squad is Javi Garrido and Momo Gonzalez, along with Pablo Cardona, Edu Alonso, and Alex Arroyo. The national coach has instead chosen for the pairing of Nieto/Sanz and included Ruiz/Yanguas in the team.

The key question now is how Spain will structure their lineup. The Spanish newspaper Marca has suggested two possible formations for the team.

The first option very much reflects the line-up used by Spain in the last World Cup:

  • Coello and Galan
  • Lebron and Navarro
  • Sanz and Nieto

There is also a possibility of changing the third pair, but given how well Sanz and Nieto have played together, it's considered likely that they will continue as a duo.

The second suggestion involves Lebron playing in the backhand position, which seems logical given the eight players selected. A potential lineup could be:

  • Sanz and Galan
  • Coello and Lebron
  • Yanguas and Navarro

Galan and Sanz played together last year and could form a stable first pair. Coello and Lebron would then become an exciting second pair, while Yanguas and Navarro, who have played a few tournaments together, would make up the third pairing.
