The reasons why Bela and Tello won't be at the World Cup unveiled
Juan Tello and Fernando Belasteguín made headlines after not being called up for the World Cup by Argentina. Both players explained the reasons behind this decision.
Juan Tello
The case of 'El Gato' is purely personal. While it's true that he isn't having his best season performance-wise, Tello has the ideal combination of experience and youth to compete in a World Cup.
Tello posted a video on social media explaining that he is expecting the birth of his daughter around the tournament dates, which is the main reason he won’t be part of the Argentine delegation.
His full message reads: “This year, I’ll be cheering on the national team from home. I'm expecting my daughter’s birth around that time. I’ll work hard not to miss the 2026 event. We have a great team! Let’s go, Argentina!”
Fernando Belasteguín
The greatest legend of the sport won’t have his farewell on the court with the national team. The coaches have decided not to include him in the squad for this World Cup, purely for sporting reasons.
Reca and Ovide, Argentina’s coaches, opted for the youth and good form of Augsburger, Chozas, and Libaak.
