To the final after impressive victory over world number ones
Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez are through to the final of the Premier Padel competition in Belgium after a win over Paula Josemaria and Ariana Sanchez.
The fifth Premier Padel competition of the year is taking place this week. Today, the semi-finals is taking place in Belgium. World number ones Ariana Sanchez and Paula Josemaria played against Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez.
Sanchez and Josemaria started the match strongly and took a 5-2 lead but Triay and Fernandez did not let go of the set and won three straight games to 5-5. Then the world number ones showed their strength and secured the first set with the score 7-5.
Triay and Fernandez got off to a great start in the second set, winning double breaks to take a 3-0 lead. The pair kept the lead until the set with the score 6-4.
A third set had to decide the battle of the final. Triay and Fernandez started the third set by winning a break but this time Josemaria and Sanchez managed to equalise the score. At 4-4, Triay and Fernandez won a break and could then secure a place in the final.
The result was: 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
In the final, Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez will play Tamara Icardo and Ale Salazar or Bea González and Delfi Brea.
