Here are the winners of the Premier Padel competition in Venezuela
The fourth Premier Padel competition of the year has been decided.
Coello/Tapia vs Galan/Chingotto
A few weeks ago, it was announced that Ale Galan and Juan Lebron would go their separate ways. One of the best couples the padel world has ever seen decided to break up. Together they won 27 World Padel Tour titles and six Premier Padel titles.
Ale Galan made the decision and knew who he wanted to start a new partnership with. Federico Chingotto was his only choice, he said earlier this week: "At the time, Fede was the only option".
Galan and Chingotto played their first tournament together last week in Venezuela. The pair made it to the final where world number one Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia were waiting.
Tapia and Coello began by winning a break but the match had to be suspended due to rain. When the match resumed, Galan and Chingotto were ready to equalise the score. They did so and won five games in a row until 6-2, 1-0. But Tapia and Coello showed their strength and won the second set 6-3.
A third set decided the final. In the deciding part of the match, Tapia and Coello were the strongest and won the match 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Brea/Gonzalez vs Salazar/Icardo
On the women's side, Delfi Brea and Bea Gonzalez played against Alejandra Salazar and Tamara Icardo.
Delfi Brea and Beatriz Gonzalez won the semi-final against Virginia Riera and Sofia Araujo two days ago with 6-4, 6-3. Salazar and Icardo only played a few games in the semi-final before Claudia Fernandez was forced to retire.
The first set was even with long duels. Brea/Gonzalez started by taking a 3-1 lead but Salazar/Icardo equalised the score to 4-4. Then Brea/Gonzalez won the break and the set.
Delfi Brea and Beatriz Gonzalez started the second set well and took a 4-0 lead, but Salazar and Icardo did not give up and got closer on the scoreboard. In the end, Brea/Gonzalez were the strongest and won the match 6-4, 6-3.
The next Premier Padel competition will be played at the end of April in Belgium.
