Arturo Coello: "The main objective is to reclaim the number 1."
Arturo Coello begins the 2024 Premier Padel season as the number 1 in the individual rankings. The left-handed player gave an interview to the newspaper Marca in which he analyzed what was achieved last year and the main objectives for this new start.
Although Coello leads the individual classification, his partner Agustín Tapia couldn't participate in some tournaments in 2023. That's why the pair is behind Lebrón and Galán in the doubles rankings. Arturo stated that the main goal is to regain the throne:
"Without a doubt, the ultimate goal is to try to be number 1 by the end of the year, but there are many stages we have to overcome before reaching that. The first is to be physically fit, now we are close to 100%. It has been a very intense preseason, in my case doubling physical training to try to match the level of our rivals."
Coello and Tapia had a fantastic start to the season that catapulted them to the top of the rankings. Arturo indicated that this raised the bar very high for the fans, which ended up playing against them: "People got used to something that wasn't normal. It's not usual or logical to win so many tournaments in a row."
Regarding rumors of Galán and Lebrón's separation, Tapia and Coello were never an option. This is how the left-handed player from Valladolid explained it: "I think they saw us so united that we didn't receive calls like that. In the end, there was a rumor here, another there... but nothing, neither Ale nor Juan nor anyone called me. With Agus, we have a long-term project, although it sounds strange, whatever happens."
Finally, Coello expressed that the rivalry they have with Lebrón and Galán is healthy and that he hopes the physical condition will accompany both pairs: "I think this year will start more regularly and we will see great matches, not only with them, but also with Martín and Stupa and many others to come."
Coello and Tapia debuted with a victory at the Riad P1 and aim to win the first Premier Padel title.
