Reserve Cup Day 2 — Substitutions during the matches
The second day of the Reserve Cup in Miami has been completed. The day was marked by an intense schedule with match after match.
The Reserve Cup presents an exciting team format where the 14 invited players have been divided between Team Miami and Team Reserve.
Team Miami: Franco Stupaczuk, Martín Di Nenno, Federico Chingotto, Álex Ruíz, Maxi Sánchez, Juan Tello and Momo González.
Team Reserve: Alejandro Galán, Juan Lebrón, Jon Sanz, Coki Nieto, Javi Garrido, Mike Yanguas and Zalo Rubio.
The first day (Thursday) had to be cancelled due to rain for the second match of the day. This meant that five matches were on the schedule yesterday.
The biggest innovation in the Reserve Cup is that team captains have the option to make one substitution per day. One player can replace another from their team in the middle of a game. Team Miami used their substitution in yesterday's first game when Franco Stupaczuk replaced Maxi Sanchez.
This meant that yesterday started with Galan/Rubio against Di Nenno/Stupa at 5-4 and Team Reserve's serve. The change was the right choice because Di Nenno/Stupa started by equalising the score.
A supertiebreak decided yesterday's second match where Di Nenno/Stupa won 10-7.
Yanguas/Nieto strong together
In the third match of the tournament and yesterday's second match, Álex Ruíz and Momo González (Team Miami) played Mike Yanguas and Coki Nieto (Team Reserve). The match was decided in straight sets where Yanguas/Nieto won 6-4, 6-4.
After that match, all delayed matches were completed and the score was 2-1 in favour of Team Reserve. The remaining matches of the day were worth two points.
Martín Di Nenno and Juan Tello (Team Miami) defeated Ale Galan and Jon Sanz (Team Reserve) 6-3, 7-6 in the first regular match of the day.
Substitution in the middle of the match
Franco Stupaczuk and Alex Ruiz (Team Miami) then played against Javi Garrido and Gonzalo Rubio (Team Reserve). At 5-4 and Stupaczuk/Ruiz serve, Team Reserve decided to make a change and brought in Mike Yanguas instead of Gonzalo Rubio. The challenge was still too difficult. Stupaczuk/Ruiz won the match 6-4, 6-2.
In the last match of the day, Juan Lebron and Coki Nieto (Team Reserve) played against Federico Chingotto and Maxi Sánchez (Team Miami). The first set was won by Chingotto/Sánchez 6-1. At 3-4 in the second set, Team Miami chose to use their substitution and brought in Momo Gonzalez instead of Maxi Sanchez.
Chingotto/Sánchez/Gonzalez won the match 6-1, 6-4.
Team Miami leads 7-2 going into the final day where every match is worth three points.
The final day starts: 🇺🇸17h00 🇪🇸23h00 🇦🇷19h00.
