Sanz on the partnership with Nieto: "We had a little crisis at the end of the year"
Jon Sanz and Coki Nieto will continue their collaboration in 2024.
Now Sanz is speaking out about the decision.
A new season awaits and several new partnerships have been formed. But Jon Sanz and Coki Nieto will continue together. The players announced this at the end of last year.
Jon Sanz and Coki Nieto played together at the Vienna Open at the end of May. The pair produced successful results and reached a semi-final. But the pair ended their partnership after just one tournament together as Sanz had been asked to share the court with Ale Galan.
Coki Nieto and Jon Sanz then reunited when Juan Lebron returned to the court. Their best result in the autumn was a final place in Finland.
Now Jon Sanz talks about the decision to continue playing together:
— We had a little crisis at the end of the year with the change of partners and all that movement. There were some bad months due to various reasons, but when the opportunity came up to stay together, we both decided that we had no other better option. Staying together was the best plan," he tells Mundo Deportivo.
He also explains his reasoning:
- "Coki and I are two different players, but we fit very well together. For example, Coki works more on the offensive game and I work a bit more on stability in the defence. In the Master final, I had a little dip at the end of the game and I left with a strange feeling because we played a good game, but I didn't succeed in the most important moment.
Jon Sanz and Coki Nieto will start the new season as the ninth-ranked pair.
