WPT organizer disappointed with Premier Padel: ”We have not been contacted yet”
From next year, Premier Padel will be the official world tour. This follows the takeover of the World Padel Tour that was presented in August.
Now the organizers of the Abu Dhabi Padel Master express their disappointment with the new tour.
As of next season, a tour will be played under the name Premier Padel and be governed by the International Padel Federation (FIP). This was announced by Premier Padel's owner, Qatar Sports Investment, in a press release earlier this year, where QSI communicated the acquisition of the World Padel Tour.
After the takeover, not much more has been communicated about the new tour. Instead, it has mostly been speculation from various sources and unclear messages from Premier Padel.
Now the organizers of Abu Dhabi Padel Master express their disappointment with the new tour.
”However, there is concern surrounding the future of the sport, particularly the recent public press release announcing the merger of the World Padel Tour and Premier Padel into one unified tour, Premier Padel, commencing in 2024, with recent reports surfacing indicating that the inaugural tournament is set to kick off in Doha”, writes the organizer and continues:
”To date, we have not been contacted by the new unified Tour for a date for the 2024 Abu Dhabi Padel Master. Despite these formidable challenges, GMOLx reassures all stakeholders of its unwavering commitment”.
Premier Padel starts in Doha, 2024
The 2023 World Padel Tour season started with the Abu Dhabi Padel Master. But now it seems unclear if the competition will take place next year. According to Padel Alto, Premier Padel will start with a tournament in Doha, Qatar and then spend one to two months in the Middle East with around five different tournaments in the area.
The full schedule is expected to be released this week.
