Top duo eliminated - first surprise in Milano P1

Rafael Mendez and Javi Rico caused the first upset of the tournament when they knocked out Agustín Gutiérrez and Sanyo Gutiérrez.

One pair that has had a tough autumn is the Gutierrez duo. The couple started the collaboration incredibly well and made it to the semi-finals in Madrid Master. However, the couple then had to leave several competitions in the first round. Yesterday, the duo fell in the round of 16.

It was the debut and farewell for the eighth-seeded pair in the tournament, Sanyo Gutiérrez and Agustin Gutierrez. The pair had to leave the tournament after the first match when Rafael Mendez and Javi Rico showed a strong performance and eliminated the Argentines.

The result was 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 in favour of Mendez and Rico.

Rafael Mendez and Javi Rico will now play in Round 16 against Alejandro Arroyo and Eduardo Alonso.
