Top pair eliminated — first surprise in Menorca
Miguel Benítez and José Rico caused the first surprise of the tournament when they knocked out Agustín Gutiérrez and Sanyo Gutiérrez.
This week, the last World Padel Tour event in Spain before the Master Final will be played — at least the previous competition with Damm's concept. Premier Padel will take over the world tour next year after the takeover announced in August.
It was the debut and farewell for the eighth-seeded pair in the tournament, Sanyo Gutiérrez and Agustin Gutierrez. After the first match, the pair had to leave the tournament when Miguel Benitez and José Rico performed well and knocked out the Gutierrez duo.
The result was 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. The Gutiérrez duo had two chances to equalize the score to 5-5 in the deciding set but failed.
Next up for Benítez and Rico is the round of 16, where the pair will face the winner of the match between Martín Andornino and Guillermo Collado against Juan Martín Díaz and Miguel Lamperti.
