Pablo Lima's farewell: ”I'm happy that my farewell to padel is in Madrid”
This week, Pablo Lima will play his last professional tournament. The Brazilian tells the Spanish newspaper AS that he is happy to be saying goodbye in Madrid.
With over 50 titles and three years as world number one, Pablo Lima will forever be one of the best in the world padel. This week, the journey of 23 seasons at the world's highest level will end for the Brazilian.
— I planned to finish the year and think I could, but I lack motivation. I missed the last few tournaments because I had a knee problem, but I could have played in other conditions. When the athlete's engine no longer works, it's time to stop, Lima told AS.
Tonight, Pablo Lima and partner Agustin Silingo will play in the Round of 16 of WPT Madrid Master. Their opponents are Juan Lebron and Alejandro Galan. The Brazilian legend says he is looking forward to facing the players in what could be the last WPT match of his career.
— I'm happy that my farewell to professional padel will take place in Madrid, on a court as symbolic as Caja Mágica. I am happy that this is where I will say goodbye, with Agustín Gómez Silingo as my partner.
He continues:
— I'm not complaining either, because if we lose, it will be against one of the best pairs in the world, and if we win that match and move on, it will be very valuable.
Three highlights
Pablo Lima says he will miss professional padel as he has spent most of his life on tour.
— It's almost 19 years, more than half a lifetime. Of course, I will miss it, but it's time to return home.
When the Brazilian legend is asked about his best seasons, he chooses to highlight three seasons:
— There have been three years as number one with Fernando Belasteguín, and I think my first two seasons with him, and the last one with Juani Mieres, have been the ones when I was at my best," Lima told AS.
