Padel wave continues in London — opens facility at old Olympic stadium
In the UK, the padel wave has now really taken off. In London, a new facility will soon open next to the iconic O2 arena, one of Europe's largest indoor stadiums.
Padel Alto has previously reported on the newly opened exclusive club Padium in the financial district of Canary Wharf, London.
It also opens up for padel in connection with the O2 arena, close to the Canary Wharf area. The 02 Arena is one of the city's most famous concert venues, with room for up to 20,000 spectators, and is thus one of Europe's largest indoor arenas.
The new facility's name will be Padel Social Club, consisting of three courts, social areas, a bar, a café, and views of the River Thames.
It is scheduled to open in early 2024.
"Will host professional tournaments."
Not only will the club be a permanent part of the O2 arena, but it is hoped that it will be a gateway to hosting professional international paddle events at The O2 in years to come.
"Since we started the business, we have been incredibly focused on getting our clubs into iconic locations, and there is hardly anything more iconic than the O2. This, along with our pop-up courts in Earls Court, in such a central location in London. It will be a fantastic platform to showcase the Padel Social Club experience", says Padel Social Club CEO Kristian Hunter in a press release.
During the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, the O2 arena hosted the gymnastics and basketball finals.
