Favorites dominate in their debut in Malaga
The top-seeded pairs in the women’s draw make a strong start at the World Padel Tour Open in Malaga, easily dispatching their opponents in their opening matches.
The world's number one and number two pairs completely overwhelmed their rivals on the court, with matches that didn't even last an hour.
Triay and Ortega make a solid debut
In the morning's first match, Gemma Triay and Martita Ortega stepped onto the court with a clear objective: to assert their dominance from the get-go. And they did just that. Giving no respite to their opponents, Teresa Navarro and Araceli Martínez, the winners of the Premier Padel Italy Major displayed an aggressive and overwhelming game that left their rivals with no chances.
The final score showed an emphatic 6/1 6/0 in favor of Triay and Ortega, who secured their spot in the next round in just 55 minutes. In the quarter-finals, they will face Jessica Castello and Sofía Araujo, the 7th-ranked pair in the tournament, who defeated Barrera/Caldera 7/6 7/6.
Josemaría and Sánchez sweep the board
In the second morning match, Paula Josemaría and Ariana Sánchez took to the central court of Malaga, determined not to be outdone.
The world number one pair faced off against Shafirova and Borrero, who came through the qualifiers, and the difference in rankings was evident. Sánchez and Josemaría swept aside the Russian and Spanish duo with a crushing 6/1 6/0 in just 50 minutes of play, showing exactly why they are the best pair currently.
After securing their place in the quarter-finals, Sánchez and Josemaría await their next opponents, who will be determined by the match between Osoro/Sainz and Saiz/Amatriaín.
