Top pair eliminated — First big upset at the Foro Italico
The pairing of Denis Perino and Miguel Lamperti caused the first surprise of the tournament after taking out Momo Gonzalez and Sanyo Gutierrez in two sets.
It was debut and farewell at the Premier Padel Italy Major for the seventh seeded pair of the tournament, Momo Gonzalez and Sanyo Gutierrez.
The Spanish-Argentine duo showed a lot of doubts in their debut match at the Foro Italico, and lost in two sets to the newly formed team of Denis Perino and Miguel Lamperti.
The Argentineans took to the court in great form and, supported by the powerful smash of the experienced Lamperti, they quickly took the lead on the scoreboard.
Surprise at the Foro Italico
However, after starting 5-2 down the scoreboard, the pairing of Momo and Sanyo started a comeback that levelled things up, taking the first set to a tiebreak. But there, Lamperti and Perino showed their character and won the set 7/6.
The second set started off evenly, but the definitive break came in the ninth game in favour of Lamperti and Perino, who took advantage of their opponents' mistakes to eventually claim the victory by 7/6 6/4.
Momo and Sanyo said goodbye to the Roman tournament in their first match, leaving more doubts than certainties. For their part, Lamperti Perino got a great victory and will play tomorrow against Bergamini and Ruiz in the last sixteen.
