Surprise in the padel Finals of the 2023 European Games – Here are all the medals

The finals of padel took place this weekend at the EG2023, and while the favorites emerged victorious in the mixed and men's categories, the surprise came in the battle for the women's gold medal.

Last Wednesday, padel made its official debut at the 2023 European Games in Poland, the biggest sporting event held on the continent.

 The competition unfolded, as expected, with Spain emerging as the clear favorite in all categories. However, the surprise came in the medal finals held this Sunday at the iconic market square in Krakow.

Spain Dominates in Men's and Mixed Categories

In the men's category, Spain showcased their dominance. Both pairs that reached the final were Spanish, securing the gold and silver medals. The duo of Daniel Santigosa and David Gala emerged victorious in a hard-fought match against Alonso Rodríguez and Pablo García.

On the other hand, in the mixed category, Spain maintained their stronghold and clinched the gold medal. The Spanish pair of Noa Cánovas and Daniel Santigosa defeated the Italian duo of Marco Cassetta and Giulia Sussarello in straight sets in the final.

Italy Springs a Surprise

In the women's category, Spain was expected to claim the gold medal. However, Italy sprung a major surprise. The Italian team, composed of Carolina Orsi and Giorgia Marchetti, achieved a remarkable victory by defeating the Spanish duo of Marta Barrera and Marta Caparrós in a closely contested three-set match.
