Long winning streak broken — Di Nenno and Stupaczuk champions in Valladolid
Martin Di Nenno and Franco Stupaczuk defeat the world number ones for the first time on the World Padel Tour and win the title in Valladolid.
In the afternoon, the WPT final was decided in Valladolid. Di Nenno and Stupaczuk broke the world number one's long winning streak of 46 wins and were crowned champions.
The match was a thriller, to say the least. Both pairs started by winning each set 6-4. Before a third set could be decided, the players had to take a break due to the high heat in Valladolid.
Strong comeback
At the start of the third set, Tapia and Coello showed dominance and took a 4-1 lead. But Di Nenno and Stupaczuk made a strong comeback to level the score at 4-4.
A tiebreak ended the set, the match, and the tournament. Martin Di Nenno and Franco Stupaczuk eventually won the match, defeating Tapia and Coello with the result: 4-6, 6-4, 7-6.
- We almost thought we would never beat them. They are like our fathers. They always beat us. It was hard mentally to play against them as well. This title goes to everyone in our team who helps and supports us," Stupaczuk said after the win.
The next World Padel Tour event will occur in València in early July. On the women´s side, Delfi Brea and Bea Gonzalez won their second title of the year after defeating Marta Ortega and Gemma Triay 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 in the final of the Valladolid Master.
