Ustero and Alonso cause major upset in Valladolid
The young duo of Andrea Ustero and Alejandra Alonso has pulled off a tournament surprise by eliminating the Alayeto twins and securing a spot in their inaugural quarterfinals.
The progress of Alejandra Alonso and Andrea Ustero has been truly remarkable in their recent three World Padel Tour tournaments.
The 16 and 17-year-old youngsters have not only successfully navigated through the qualifiers in Marbella, Toulouse, and Valladolid but also made a significant breakthrough in their fledgling careers at the Valladolid Masters.
This talented pair has qualified for their maiden quarterfinals by defeating none other than the sixth-ranked duo, the Sanchez Alayeto twins. Ustero and Alonso were vastly superior to their opponents, triumphing in straight sets with an emphatic 6-3, 6-1 scoreline.
Their only defeats came at the hands of the top-ranked pairs.
The streak of these talented young players has only been halted by the top-ranked pairs. Starting from the preliminary rounds, the Spaniards fell in their first tournament against the third-ranked pair, Brea and Gonzalez.
In the recent French Open, they lost to the world number one pair, Sanchez and Josemaría, with whom they will face off once again tomorrow in the Valladolid Master quarterfinals.
