Ortega and Araujo part ways: "I can't hide my disappointment and sadness"
Just two months after starting to share the court, Marta Ortega and Sofía Araujo unexpectedly end their project.
Marta Ortega and Sofía Araújo joined paths in early April, after ending their partnerships with Delfina Brea and Bea González. But just two months after their union, the fourth-ranked pair bid farewell abruptly.
Portuguese player Sofía Araújo announced the news with disappointment through her social media:
"After the Marbella Master, my collaboration with Martita has also come to an end. A little kiss, thank you very much for this time, and good luck in your new project. It's truly disheartening when things don't depend solely on us.”
She continued:
“I can't hide my disappointment and sadness, but as far as I'm concerned, I will continue working and fighting with the same focus for my goals, as always," said the Lisbon-born player.
Ortega's new project
The decision to separate would have been made by Ortega, who supposedly has a new project in mind. The news comes on the same day that the world number two, Alejandra Salazar, announced she will be away from the courts for a while. It remains to be seen if Ortega will accompany Gemma Triay while waiting for her partner's recovery.
The Ortega/Araújo pair bids farewell after seven tournaments and one Open 500 title, also reaching three Open 1000 semifinals and one Master semifinal.
