Marta Ortega forced to withdraw from WPT semifinals after injury
Marta Ortega was forced to withdraw during the semi-final of the Vienna Padel Open after an injury.
In the morning, the first semi-final was played in World Padel Tour Vienna Open. The world number one Paula Josemaria and Ari Sánchez played against the newly formed duo Marta Ortega and Sofia Araujo, but the match had a disappointing ending.
The world number one took the lead by winning the first set 6-3. But the second set never started, as Marta Ortega and Sofia Araujo were forced to withdraw.
In the WPT broadcast, the commentator Nicolás Quarles van Ufford told us that a forearm injury prevents her from continuing to play the match.
The player herself left the arena in tears.
It is still unclear whether Marta Ortega will return for next week's Master's tournament in Marbella.
