This is how the battle for the number one spot stands after the Brussels Open

ANNONS

After winning their sixth consecutive title, Tapia and Coello are close to the top of the rankings, while Sanchez and Josemaria managed to widen the gap.

Following the World Padel Tour in Belgium, where Tapia/Coello and Sanchez/Josemaria were crowned champions once again, the battle for the number one spot in the world rankings is fierce in both the men's and women's categories.

Women's ranking

In an intense and thrilling final that had all the ingredients, Sanchez and Josemaria managed to beat Gemma Triay and Alejandra Salazar, their closest contenders in the rankings.

The women's number one ranked pair won their third consecutive title in Brussels, which will allow them to widen the gap over Triay and Salazar, champions in the 2022 edition of the tournament.

Men's ranking

In the men's draw for the first time in a long time Lebrón and Galán see their throne threatened, as after winning their sixth consecutive title (out of six possible) Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia are approaching the top of the rankings.

Once the WPT rankings are updated - and the world number one pairing loses the points obtained at the 2022 edition in Brussels where they were champions - the difference between Lebron/Galan and Tapia/Coello will be just over 500 points.

This means that if the number ones do not get a good result in the next tournament, and Tapia and Coello do, the 1000 points at stake at the Vigo Open would be enough to crown a new top couple in the world ranking for the first time in three years.

Here's how the rankings stand after the WPT Brussels Open:
