Stupa and Di Nenno advance after an absolute thriller
Franco Stupaczuk and Martin Di Nenno are through to the final of the Brussels Open after an absolute thriller in the semi-final against the new pair, Sanyo Gutierrez and Momo Gonzalez.
It was a tiebreak in the deciding set that decided the first semi-final on the men's side of the Brussels Open. The winners were "Los Superpibes," Martin Di Nenno, and Franco Stupaczuk.
The extremely well-played semi-final contained almost everything and ended 4-6, 6-0, 7-6. Above all, the team's defensive play, with skillful blocking in front of the net, was most impressive during the match and in the much slower conditions of the Brussels Open compared to the recent tournaments.
It will be Franco Stupaczuk and Martin Di Nino's third straight WPT final. Tomorrow they can get their revenge against recent giants Agustin Tapia and Arturo Coello, who will face Paquito Navarro and Federico Chingotto later in the day in the second semi-final.
For Momo Gonzalez and Sanyo Gutierrez, the Brussels Open was a promising start to their new project.
Tiebreak in the women's semi-final
The first semi-final on the women's side also provided great entertainment, with Sofia Araujo and Marta Ortega coming close to upsetting world number one Ari Sanchez and Paula Josemaria. That match also ended in a tiebreak in the deciding set. 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 was the final result.
Gemma Triay and Ale Salazar will face Bea Gonzalez and Delfi Brea in the second semi-final tonight.
