Galan´s first words after the final: ”We apologize”

ANNONS

Alejandro Galan has received strong social media reactions after yesterday's Chile Padel Open final. His first words after the scandalous match have now been released.

Ale Galan has been heavily criticized after the scandalous match in the final of the Chile Padel Open against Agustin Tapia and Arturo Coello.

Padel Alto has contacted the player's representative, who chose not to comment on the matter. But now the player has taken to social media to apologize.

”Congratulations Arturo and Agus, for the well-deserved victory. As a team, we apologize for what happened yesterday in Chile”.

The background is from a situation at 5-3 to Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia and at the score of 30-30 in the second set against Juan Lebron and Ale Galan. Coello then had a volley that seemed to go in. The team took the point for granted; the scoreboard read 40-30 and thus had two tournament points.

But the referee either said the wrong results in the speakers or judged the ball out because he said 30-40 without anyone reacting on the court.

Took their third title of the season

In the next point, Agustin Tapia hit a smash out of the court, dropped the racket, and cheered as if they had won the tournament. The referee said: "Game, set and match."

But Alejandro Galan then points out that the referee judged Coello's volley out. The referee changed his mind, and the match continued, leaving Tapia/Coello and the spectators onsite furious at the decision.

The match went to a third set, where Galan and Lebron had match point. However, Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia won 7-5 and took their third WPT title of the season in as many tournaments.
