Spain's Victor Ruiz and Brazil's Lucas Bergamini caused Thursday's surprise after eliminating the tournament's favorite pairing, Sanyo Gutierrez and Fernando Belasteguin, in the round of 16 of the WPT La Rioja Open.

The hot conditions at the Superdomo de La Rioja did not favor the Argentine couple, who were overwhelmed by the fast game of their rivals.

Bergamini and Ruiz played a perfect match and gave no chance to the Argentine legends, who saw their debut match at home slip away in front of more than 8000 fans.

The Spanish-Brazilian couple won by a clear 7/5 6/3 to get their pass to the tournament's quarterfinals, where they will face another of the most beloved local couples: Miguel Lamperti and Juan Cruz Belluati.
