DETAILS: WPT tournament in April threatened

ANNONS

Last year, the World Padel Tour had to move its tournament in Stockholm from April to September. Now reports say that this year's scheduled tournament in April is under threat.

The Swedish site Padelfeber first broke the news that the planned World Padel Tour tournament in Stockholm from 17-23 April is under threat.

According to the site, the Swedish organizer Swedish Padel Open (SPO), is looking at other dates for the big spectacle due to a schedule clash. Something that is not the easiest given the already tight schedule of tournaments for the padel elite.

The background to the problem is that the Avicii Arena, which hosted WPT last season, is hosting the Swedish Floorball Championship finals on Saturday, while the Tele2 arena is hosting football matches on Saturday and Sunday.

This causes problems for the organizers, as a WPT tournament requires a stadium with a minimum ceiling height of 12 meters and an audience capacity of at least 5 000 spectators.

Last year, too, organizers were forced to change the date. They played in September instead of spring. The reason then was covid restrictions.

It has already been decided that the Swedish Padel Tour will once again organize a WPT tournament in Malmö on 6-12 November and, just like last year, it will be played in the Malmö Arena,

Although the tournament is in November, tickets are already available for purchase via the organizer's website, unlike the tournament in Stockholm, which will take place in just under three months.

Padel Alto´s sister site, PadelDirekt, has contacted Swedish Padel Open's tournament director Urban Johansson, who has declined to comment on the matter.
