Ruiz's heartfelt words: ”It is time to think where we want to take our profession”

After a 2022 full of tournaments, where players have had to push themselves to the limit, it is time to slow down and evaluate the season. In a heartfelt statement, Spanish player Victor Ruiz takes stock of what has been, for most players, one of the most demanding years of their careers.

Victor Ruiz, currently ranked 35th in the world, has been one of the great entertainers of 2022. Since he started playing alongside Lucas Bergamini in May, the pairing has been one of the toughest of the season, giving headaches to more than one top-10 couple.

The Spanish-Brazilian pair got their best result in the Milan Premier Padel P1, where the couple was the revelation of the tournament reaching the final after eliminating several top teams.

In a heartfelt post on his social media, Ruiz points to all that a professional player (who is not in the top 20) must endure in a year with a schedule as demanding as last season.

2022 — a turbulent year

”To talk about a professional athlete is to talk about his successes and fame, but sometimes we forget everything he has behind him. Last week we closed a season full of continuous appointments, endless trips, and calls to our family from every corner of the world.”

The Spaniard considers that a year as turbulent as 2022, with two circuits coexisting (and battling), is an excellent opportunity to look forward and learn from mistakes to work for the good of padel.

"It must be a season in which all levels of this beautiful sport learn from what has happened to avoid situations like those we have experienced this season. The pressure, the difficulty of managing success and defeat. It's time to catch our breath, to get some oxygen, and to consider where we want to take our profession".
